Questions & Answers

Q:  What three words would your friends use to describe you?

A:  1. Methodical

      2. Reliable

      3. Loyal

Q:  Why did you select property management as your career choice?

A:  I am passionate about property management because this industry has so many moving pieces. It requires a solid knowledge base and a deep understanding of what is needed to have all of those moving pieces work in unison to be able to provide a basic human need- a place the customer is proud to call home.  This career also allows me to capitalize on my communication and organization skills, and my desire to work in an environment that challenges me every single day. I thoroughly enjoy stepping into the office each day expecting the unexpected as I effectively manage my team, time, and the resources available to meet our objectives.

Q:  What do you consider to be your weakness?

A:  I have always been extremely critical of my own work.  Yes, I realize the self-proclaimed “perfectionist” is the cliché response to this question. But for longer than I can recall, I have prided myself on producing error-free work- a fault that serves me well when it comes to job performance and at evaluation time.  However, having such a weakness has proven to be an impairment as I have a tendency to waste time checking and re-checking my work or dwelling on minor errors that have nothing to do with the actual assignment.  Since I have become aware of this trait, I have been making a concerted effort to not be so critical of myself by focusing on the task or assignment in that moment and trusting myself, my expertise, and my research abilities.

Q:  What are your greatest professional strengths?

A:  My greatest weakness has proven to also be my greatest strength.  My perfectionist tendencies mean my teammates and supervisors know they can depend on me to perform at my best and produce error-free work.  Regardless of the task or assignment, they find me to be consistently hard-working and detail-oriented.  Second, I actively listen so I am able to really hear what the problem is and get a true understanding of what needs to be addressed to effectively resolve problems better.  Another strength I am proud of is I am a "bridge builder". Whenever there are two people or groups with differing points of view, whether they are my peers or customers, I am able to leverage this skill to fully assess both sides and find a workable solution for all involved.

Q:  What is your management style?

A:  I feel that a good manager is able to support and balance the talents of individuals so that they work together and the team ultimately ends up managing itself.  I work to actively coach, mentor, and motivate my direct reports to establish an environment that fosters teamwork for achieving goals, influencing valued input, and participation while setting expectations for accountability. I believe in having open discussion for decision-making and I am always open to new ideas coming from team members; I consult with them frequently and encourage and support independent thinking.

Q:  What personal qualities have helped you in your career? Contributed to your success?

A:  I am enthusiastic, trustworthy, and constantly seeking to learn more.  My enthusiasm makes working toward goals more enjoyable for me.  The high level of trust my coworkers have in me creates a real bond and helps us when we are sharing responsibilities or going through busy periods.  Finally, I believe that because I am always learning and seeking to absorb more about the industry and the part I play in it, I am more productive, happier on the job, and am passionate about what I do.  All of that has contributed to my success.

Q:  What is your greatest accomplishment outside of work?

A: Getting married young and remaining committed to my toughest critic, my greatest advocate, and my closest friend for 27 years.
